Want an Overall Development of a Student? Try VAWSUM!

When it comes to VAWSUM, the development of a student is of the utmost importance. Be it in any area of the school life, VAWSUM looks into an overall development of the child in every aspect.

If you are a parent, then it is sure that you had tried making the dish that your child loves, with the ingredients that you want (if your child doesn’t want to have the ingredients that you want your child to have) and the child would eat it with joy and happiness. But why does this even happen? What makes the child eat it? Well, the answer is, the child got what he/she wanted.  Now imagine, if one could use this same policy for the development of a student, then how much more developed each student can become. Sounds interesting, isn’t it?

This is exactly why you need VAWSUM. We provide an online platform for students when it comes to studies. Let me elaborate it :

  • The teacher can upload homework over the app and students can do the homework and upload it. Students would love to do this type of homework as shifting paper-based homework to an online platform can make students enjoy the assignment And when students enjoy an assignment, they are more likely to complete it and do a better job. Assigning a digital form of homework means one doesn’t have missing assignments. The online platform can be very interactive as students can read their classmates’ uploaded homework and leave comments. This helps in the overall development of the student.
  • The teacher can upload links, photos, and documents. This creates an atmosphere of a smart class. This is very helpful for auditory and visual learners as this enhances their speed of learning, and thus fostering their development.
  • The attendance module of the App makes sure that the students don’t miss classes unnecessarily, and as we all know, “The First step to Success is Showing Up”. Therefore, this too enhances the student development.
  • Using the app, a teacher can upload pictures of school activities. Now say for an example, John comes first in a 100-meter race and his picture gets uploaded. Paul, who is also a sprinter, sees this and makes it a point to work hard such that his picture is uploaded the next year. This is what exactly happened in a school. Young people love the limelight and when he/she knows that the audience would be the entire school then he/she is bound to work harder towards his own development.
  • One can also track the school bus of his/her child by using this app. This ensures the safety of the child.
  • The teacher can communicate with each parent one on one using the app. This helps when the parent-teacher meeting is hard to come by. It can be because of many reasons(few reasons could be, unavailability of the parent or the teacher a given day). This actually helps when a teacher needs to inform a parent regarding something on the very day of its occurrence. For example, if a math teacher sees that a student is having difficulty with multiplication, then he/she doesn’t have to wait for the next PTM. He/she can inform the parent at that very moment and the parent can easily look into it. This feature thus creates a very interactive atmosphere between a parent and a teacher and this is bound to enhance the overall development of the student.

Now, when the child enjoys his/her academics, gets incentives for co-curricular activities, is assured security and there is a very good communication between the parent and teacher, then there is an assured growth in the performance of the child.

Many people, across ten states in India, have already started using this app and the biggest reason is, VAWSUM assures an overall development of the Student. If you are a too want the same for any student, then VAWSUM is the ideal solution.

Growth mindset | How to make children successful

Growth mindset and Fixed mindset are two types of mindsets that determine the quality of one’s life. “What you think, you become” Buddha rightly pointed out. Dr. Carol Dweck a Professor of Psychology at Stanford University and the author of the 2008 book “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success” coined the terms fixed mindset and growth mindset to describe the underlying beliefs people have about learning and intelligence.

According to Dr. Carol Dweck, people with a growth mindset believe that they can develop their intelligence or talent. Whereas, fixed mindset individuals believe that intelligence and talent are basic abilities.

According to Wikipedia mindset is a set of assumptions, methods, or notations held by one or more people or groups of people that is so established that it creates a powerful incentive within these people or groups to continue to adopt or accept prior behaviors, choices, or tools. This phenomenon is also sometimes described as mental inertia, “groupthink”, or a “paradigm”, and it is often difficult to counteract its effects upon analysis and decision-making processes.

Understanding the Brain

Recent advances in neuroscience show that the brain is far more malleable than we originally knew. Research on brain plasticity has shown how connectivity between neurons can be changed with more experience. With more practice, neural networks grow new connections, strengthen existing ones, and building insulation that speeds transmission of impulses. These neuroscientific discoveries have shown us that increasing our neural growth is in our own hands and this depends on the actions we take, like using good strategies, becoming inquisitive and asking more questions, practicing and taking up more challenges, and following good nutrition and sleep habits. Teaching the brain such simple things will gradually help it to improve the intelligence and ability of a person.

Magic of Praise and Feedback

Researchers have started noticing that teacher practice has a big impact on a student’s mindset, and the feedback that teachers give to their students can either encourage a child to choose a challenge and increase the chances of achievement or look for an easy way out of it for a possible chance of failure.

Teachers feedback influence students mindset in an unpredictable way. While praising for intelligence by saying “You’re so smart” which is considered by some to be motivating, in a broader perspective it can actually have a negative impact on their achievement and motivation as it doesn’t judge the quality of the student and doesn’t analyse the amount of effort they have given in completing a certain task.

It is seen that if someone is praised for his innate intelligence tend to take things for granted and wish to only perform the tasks that are easier because of the effort, in this case, is lower than those who are praised for their effort. It is not only intelligence that gets a work done but an effort is equally required for such success. Intelligence without effort is like a ship without a sailor. Praising a student’s hard work and effort cultivates a growth mindset in them. When students develop such growth mindset, they take on challenges and learn from them without thinking about possible failures, therefore increasing their abilities and achievement and accomplishing the things that were thought to be impossible in the beginning.

7 rules for growth mindset and how to set your mind on the right track

  1. Believe that intelligence can be developed.
  2. A desire to learn.
  3. Embrace challenges.
  4. Persist in the face of setbacks,
  5. See effort as a path to mastery.
  6. Learn from criticism.
  7. Find lessons and inspirations in the success of others.

The above-mentioned points will surely help one to reach a higher level of achievement.

Teacher reducing stress

Ways teachers can reduce stress

Teaching kids’ day in and day out is a rewarding career, and many teachers will tell you that they love their job. Teaching is essentially a multitasking job with several requirements of being a parent, a mentor, a guide and what not! It is one of the noblest professions with the onus of developing an individual. The students’ personality, character, attitude, thinking approach and much more is shaped by a teacher. A teacher definitely is an “all-rounder”.

On the other hand, teaching a classroom of kids every day can be quite stressful as it is an iterative process. A teacher needs to teach the same set of chapters and subjects every year. Hence, it might feel very stressful at times. But here are some easy stress busters for teachers to handle stress!

  1. Add laughter to the classroom.

Laughing is the best way to relieve stress. It makes your body feel better by releasing all those toxins and gives you a rejuvenated mood with alacrity. Cracking jokes with the students at times decrease the student-teacher barrier and create a friendly atmosphere. But remember to get them back to their studies soon!

  1. Provide effective discipline measures.

Depending on the age of the student, teachers should customize their approach such that he/she can cater to the need of the student. Being too harsh or too easy is not recommended. A perfect blend will create a strict environment during class with a friendly atmosphere which will help in holistic development of the students.

  1. Add creative expression in the classroom.

When it feels like the classroom is running out of control, an easy movement exercise will help them refocus again. Movement exercises can include standing-sitting, quick-slow breathing, inhale, exhale with eyes closed, or even pin drop silence for a minute or two. These exercises will help them concentrate again.

  1. Keep paperwork organized.

When students submit their classroom assignments, assessment tests scripts, homework and any other such documents, then its highly recommended to organize them accordingly with roll numbers and keep them in separate stacks. Maintaining a separate sheet when the number is large also helps. All these small small things will save time, increase efficiency and reduce stress.

  1. Use hand signals.

Nothing distracts teachers more than interruptions. The use of hand signals is a popular method among teachers to communicate with students without interrupting the class. Simply have students raise their hands to answer a question as usual. If a student needs to use the bathroom, they can raise their forefinger in the air. Teachers can also come up with their own system, but it works well.

  1. Make an attitude adjustment.

When you feel yourself becoming stressed in the classroom, try to think of the situation as a challenge. Keep a positive attitude and realize that you cannot control everything that happens in your classroom, but you can react to situations proactively. Students will eventually follow your lead when they are in your room.

The future of our world lies in the hands of kids and students of the new generation. Their upbringing hence plays a very crucial role which will define our World and its citizens in the future years to come. Teachers are the pillars of strength upon which their students would build up the future world. So, for all the teachers shaping the tomorrow of Planet Earth, Live life stress-free!

vawsum-for-airhostess

I am an air hostess , I see the world, now I see what my child did at school today

Rajni finished making the announcements and settled in her seat. The lights gradually went dim and the rumble grew louder. She had been an air hostess for nearly four years now but still felt uncomfortable whenever the flight made these turns and noises. However, she never let any of her inhibitions show on her face.
Life had been good to her. She had an amazing family and a husband, who listened. A smile spread across her lips as she remembered how he had surprised her by landing up at the airport with balloons to pick her up last week. Having him by his side made her stressful life a little more manageable.
Rajni noticed the mother in the third row trying to put her child to sleep. The kid would be of roughly the same age as Amit, Rajni mused. Amit had Rajesh’s eyes. He was turning out to be naughtier every day. She wished she could spend more time seeing him grow. Thankfully the School had recently started sending updates using Vawsum. It was a neat application, very easy to use. She looked forward to getting off the flight now and get real-time updates. The picture of Amit playing with colours was just adorable! Her colleagues had all fussed about how fast Amit was growing up.

Vawsum! Making Learning Awesome… Yes, very awesome indeed, she pondered.

Rainy day at School and Vawsum in it

There are many themes that are taken up and celebrated in schools in order to blend the concepts taught in the classrooms with practical experiences. Such moments are essential for the physical, mental and emotional growth of children.  The pre-primary section of one school wanted to do the same and hence, celebrated Rainy Day.

The day was celebrated with great vigor and enthusiasm. Children were very excited about the idea of getting wet in the rain. Teachers created awareness among the children about the day. The teacher demonstrated the water cycle to the children. They were informed about: How clouds were formed? How it rains? After the explanation, evaluations were conducted and children answered them enthusiastically. Tiny toddlers danced to the tunes of the teacher.  Rain Dance Activity was held to experience the real feel of getting wet in the rain and dancing and singing and enjoying the moment to its core.

Children also had a paper boat making take away activity on this day. They went home with great excitement and memories of the day.

All of the fun was just not lost, the memories were captured in the form of pictures taken by teachers and shared on the Vawsum application used by the school. Through which even the parents could experience the joy the child had in school.

School activities could never have been this exciting for parents, isn’t it?

Being a teacher is not an easy job. From taking attendance to keeping a track of the marks, from checking papers to checking on the students, from invigilation to documentation- the list goes on and on and on. Teaching is a priceless profession. But a teacher too has their own areas of liking. In recent times, most teachers have taken their liking to VAWSUM as far as school works are concerned. When asked to the teachers, they gave five basic reasons for their liking and those reasons are:

  • ATTENDANCE: – While Teachers take Attendance, instant notification reaches the Parents in no time on their Mobile Phones. This helps the parents being informed and if a student is absent, then the parent can update the reason instantly. This, thus, reduces the work pressure of the teacher.
  • SMS & E-MAILS: – Parents receive good news all the time from Teachers through the VAWSUM Application. This enhances the parent-teacher communication skills.
  • PAPERLESS DIARIES: – Teachers can send Diary Entries to Parents as a notification on their Mobile Phones. This ensures that the diary work reaches the parent on time.
  • POLES: – Teachers can set up a poll for any purpose and take in the feedbacks of the parent/students. This helps in planning educational trips or anything in which preference/choice making is concerned. This engages a parent with the decision making as far as the activities of the student are concerned and thus helping the teachers as well.
  • EVENTS: – Now Teachers can make education more enjoyable by planning different types of educational events and taking the feedback from the parents.
